Name: Julie Vogt

Age: 43

Kaia FIT Location: Woodland, CA

What brought you into Kaia?

I was encouraged by my friend, Vickie, to try it out. I went to a couple Saturday workouts with her in Natomas and I really like the challenge level of the workouts and the energy of the coaches. I was looking for something different than my normal routine, so when I saw the flyers at my gym that said Kaia was opening a location in Woodland, I knew it was meant to be and I signed up for VIP.

What were some of your initial goals?

My initial goals were to strengthen and tone my arms and to make better nutrition choices.

What were some of your fears about starting a new workout and nutrition plan?

I welcomed the new workout but, for me, the nutrition plan was more intimidating. I’m not someone who does well on “diets” so I was a little nervous about being able to follow the nutrition plan.

What were some of the first positive things you noticed about your body?

I slept better and woke up rested. I had plenty of energy even though I limited my caffeine to one cup a day. Also after the first brik, I could see the physical changes in body in after photos.

Did anything surprise you?

I was surprised by how many inches I lost.

What were some of the challenges you faced as you went along?

The biggest challenge for me is planning meals that my entire family will eat, in particular, my husband.

How did you work to overcome them?

Food preparation has been key. I try to pick one day on the weekend to shop and make a meal plan for the week. I have vegetables and fruit washed and available for snacks. I generally prepare my smoothies and lunches for the week and love participating in soup exchanges with my Kaia family.

What role did/does Kaia have in supporting you along your journey?

I always feel encouraged and uplifted after a Kaia class. The coaches are always supportive but so are all the women that show up to class every morning. I also really love the cookbooks. I use the sample menus as a guide and usually just pick a few of my favorite recipes for the week to keep it simple.

How did your eating change? What are your favorite healthy recipes?

My meals are definitely more balanced. I eat cleaner and greener. I eat a wider variety of vegetables and legumes than I used to. I have several favorite recipes. I love the Kaia Siesta Soup, as does my family, and any recipe with curry and coconut milk like the Curried Cauliflower.

What parts of the programs would you recommend to others?

I think one of the best things about Kaia is that it’s not just an exercise program. I think the program as a whole is great! The nutrition guidance is excellent, the workouts are challenging, and the emotional support from both the coaches and the other Kaia girls is just amazing.

How have your goals changed over time?

I try to set a new goal for each brik. Sometimes my goal is fitness related and sometimes it’s nutrition related. For example, I will only drink one cup of coffee per day or I will improve my mile time by 15 seconds. My last goal was to participate and complete a Spartan race on my own.

What is your favorite Kaia workout?

I really enjoy stations, TRX, and partner work but my favorite is definitely Flow.

Is there anyone in particular that you’d like to thank for pushing you?

I think everyone women and coach that shows up to class pushes me to be my best but I definitely would have to thank Coach Mallory for her constant support and encouragement.

What are your suggestions for anyone looking to join Kaia?

Show up to class and the rest will follow.

What are some of your new goals?

For my next goals, I’d like to focus more on my overall well-being. I’d like to include more yoga and meditation into my routine.
