It’s that time of year again – time to set our resolutions for the New Year. Here are some best bets for success in accomplishing what you set out to do!
1. Make smaller resolutions.
Don’t shoot for the moon, start small. Want to eat more healthily this year? Start with “I will add more veggies into my current diet”.
2. Get specific with your goals.
Get specific- how will you reach your goals? For example, would you like to save money this year? How will you make that happen? Eat out less? Put aside $20 a week? Break it down, so you know exactly how you will reach that goal!
3. Write those goals down!
Write your goals on sticky notes and put them where you will see those goals daily. There is power in writing and in setting your goals daily.
4. How will you make it happen?
How will you achieve your goals? Make a plan. Make it doable.
5. Stack your habits.
Attach your goal to another activity that you do every day to make it automatic—“A habit is a routine or behavior that is performed regularly and, in many cases, automatically.” James Clear Atomic Habits. You can purchase the book here.
6. Celebrate small successes.
If your focus is only on the end goal, you will end up getting discouraged. So, celebrate all of your small successes.
7. Get back on track if you slip up.
None of us are perfect. You will slip up, we all do! The key is to not beat yourself up or give up, just get back on track. Remember our life is a journey. It will have twists and turns along the way.
