These tofu slices are versatile.. You could dip them in BBQ sauce, you could put on a sandwich, cut up and put into a stirfry or soup or put them in a taco. You will never want to be without these already cooked and in the fridge for a quick meal.
I prefer extra firm tofu, always organic and sprouted if possible. Trader Joe’s is my go to place for tofu. You will need to press out the water. The easiest way is to fold up a paper towel into several layers and put your tofu on top. Fold up more paper towels and put on top of the tofu, then top it with a small plate and a canned good item to weigh it down. Do this for at least 30 minutes or longer- right on the counter.
Slice the tofu in about 1/4 qtr inch slices. Sprinkle each side with nutritional yeast, pink sea salt and pepper- pressing the seasonings into the slices. Heat up a non stick pan on medium high heat. Add a tsp of cold pressed olive oil or coconut oil, use a brush to spread it around. Put your tofu in the pan, cook until first side is crispy and then flip over to cook the other side in the same way.
My favorite way to eat them is just dipped in BBQ. You could even season with a bit of kelp powder (as well as the other seasonings listed below) to give it a fishy taste and then you would have fish sticks. Yum!!
Most nights I make myself a buddha bowl. Tofu slices and fresh veggies. I dip the tofu in bbq sauce (a low sugar one) and my veggies in hummus. It is so good.
