My coach encouraged me to stop blending my fruit- specifically bananas. She knew it would be hard for me- I am a raw food chef and I love green smoothies and it was very hard. I quickly got tired of my green smoothies with just berries- as much as I love berries.
I haven’t had a green smoothie in several months and was beginning to miss them. So this week I decided to experiment with a fruit free green smoothie. Thankfully it came together exactly as I imagined. The sweetness comes from monk fruit sweetener (you could sub stevia if you want), the creaminess- plant-based milk (or water and some coconut butter), and hemp seeds. The resulting smoothie is delicious. I don’t even miss the banana.
Ingredients:
5 ounces of organic spinach
1 cup of crushed ice
2 cups of plant-based milk (or 2 cups of water and 1 tbsp coconut butter)
1 tbsp hemp seeds
1/2 tbsp chlorella powder
1 tbsp maca powder
1/2 inch of peeled ginger
1/2 tsp pumpkin pie spice
1/2 tbsp-1 tbsp monk fruit sweetener
Put all ingredients into the blender and blend until smooth. Taste to see if you need to add more pumpkin pie spice and monk fruit sweetener. Best consumed right away.
