As you can probably imagine, due to my active and busy lifestyle, I don’t wear a lot of makeup. My lack of makeup doesn’t mean I don’t do anything. Our skin is the largest organ of our body so it is important to take care of it.
What I look for in the products I use is that it is cruelty-free, free of parabens, phthalates, synthetic preservatives and fragrances. I want what I put on my body to be just as healthy as what I put in my body.
The first place I start in my skin care regimen is by keeping hydrated. Drinking at least 8 glasses of water a day helps rid the body and skin of toxins. I also consume a lot of chlorophyll. Chlorophyll delivers a significant amount of antioxidants to your body. Antioxidants help reduce and slow down cell damage creating healthier skin. Chlorophyll is also purifying and helps the skin to breathe.
The next on my list is moisturizer and sunscreen. Where I live it is dry so I use a hydrating night cream as my overall moisturizer- day or night. My favorite is Weleda Iris Hydrating Night Cream. I always use sunscreen when I go out for a hike, bike ride or any event that will have me out in the sun for a significant amount of time. My favorite sunscreen is COOLA Organic Suncare.
My favorite lip balm is also by Coola. Coola Suncare Liplux Sport contains an SPF of 30, so it moisturizes as well as protects from the sun.
If I do need a little bit extra for a special event my go-to’s are Physicians Formula Black Organic Wear 100% Natural Origin Mascara and Tarte Tinted Moisturizer made from Amazonian Clay.
I also believe that oral hygiene is very important. Chronic inflammation from gum disease has been associated with the development of cardiovascular problems and poor oral health has been linked to the development of infections in other parts of the body. So I always carry Tom’s of Maine toothpaste, my toothbrush and dental floss in my makeup bag so I can take care of my pearly whites right after I eat a meal rather than having to wait until I get home.
