Fat bomb?? Say what?? Stay with me. We all need to be consuming healthy fat. Think avocado, coconut, some nuts and seeds. This intake of fat helps stave off cravings, helps us get through a workout, and keeps us fuller longer. So today I give you the spirulina fat bomb!
I love spirulina, it has many benefits:
- It contains 60% protein
- It is loaded with vitamins A, K1, K2, b12, iron, manganese and chromium
- It detoxes heavy metals
- Helps prevent cancer
- Lowers blood pressure
- Reduces cholesterol
- Boost energy
- Speeds up weight loss
This recipe makes about 30 fat bombs. You will need a food processor to make the coconut butter- or you can buy it premade.
Ingredients:
1 lb of unsweetened shredded coconut to make the coconut butter OR
1 pint of coconut butter softened (put into an Excalibur dehydrator for about an hour to soften or put into a food processor and run it until it is soft like a nut butter.
1 tbsp of spirulina
8 ounces of unsweetened shredded coconut
1/4 cup of agave nectar
1/4 cup of coconut oil
1/3 tsp of organic mint extract.
First you will make your coconut butter. Put 1 lb of shredded coconut into your food processor. Run until it turns into a what resembles a nut butter. You will have to stop it occasionally to scrape down the sides. Add the spirulina and the mint extract to blend them in.
Put this coconut butter into a bowl and add about 4 ounces of the shredded coconut, the coconut oil and agave nectar to it. Massage this all together until you get a dough. Using a small cookie dough scoop- scoop out balls of the coconut butter mix. You will need to press it into the scoop and press it together as rolling it around in the palm of your hand.
When you have completed all the fat bombs you will roll them in coconut. I found the best way is to put a small amount of coconut in your hand, put a fat bomb on top of the coconut and then roll it around- you may need to add more coconut over the top. Once it is coated with coconut go on to the next one until you have completed all the fat bombs. Store in the refrigerator. Have one before a workout, or when you are struggling with cravings.
