You hear the word “Comfort” all the time, and it’s usually pertaining to something positive. In fact, the definition of comfort is a state of physical ease and freedom from pain and constraint.
Sounds great, right? Why would you not want to be in a state of comfort? Eating Comfort Food. Sleeping in a Comfortable Bed. Being Comfortable with a Relationship. Comfort is great!!
BUT…“Comfort Zone” is a physiological term. Its definition is a behavioral state which a person operates in an anxiety-neutral condition, using a limited set of behaviors to deliver a steady level of performance, usually without a sense of risk.
BORING!!!!
Truth is…staying in your comfort zone can actually hinder you. It can hold you back and prevent you from improving. Within your zone, there isn’t much room for improvement. You are in your lane. Heading in the same direction. Same pace. Nothing changes. You have probably heard, “SSDD (Same S^%T Different Day)” – that’s life in the comfort zone.
Now think for a moment about yourself.
What is your comfort zone filled with?
Are you growing?
Are you fulfilled?
Are you changing in a positive way?
The saying goes, if you do the same thing, the same way, all the time – nothing changes. It’s when you mix it up a bit that you see growth. Pick up that heavier weight! Choose the longer lap to run! Try one push up on your toes!
It is in those moments, when you want to stop and decide “No, NOT TODAY!” That is when you push past your comfort zone and prove to yourself that YOU CAN DO HARD THINGS!!!
Press on ladies, there is so so so much growth on the horizon, but unless you opt to take the step from comfort to risk, you may never know your true potential.
